The Movement for the Rights of Arogbo-Ibe (MRAI) has strongly condemned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his recent remarks about the Ijaw people, describing him as an “unsustainablel character.”
In a statement released on Monday, Hosea T. Ebikontei, Coordinator of MRAI, and Bomi Stanley, Secretary of MRAI, accused Wike of displaying blatant disregard for the Ijaw nation, despite the pivotal role played by Ijaw leaders in his political rise.
“Former President Goodluck Jonathan was instrumental in Wike’s political ascension, yet he has continued to insult the very people who contributed to his success,” the statement read.
MRAI further accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of enabling Wike’s alleged pattern of disrespect, calling on the presidency to restrain the minister’s unguided utterances.
“Wike has once again displayed his crude mindset by insulting the Ijaw nation. It is unacceptable, and we hold President Tinubu responsible for allowing such behaviour from his minister,” the statement, signed by Ebikontei and Stanley, added.
The group also dismissed any possibility of an impeachment against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, warning that external interference in Rivers politics would not be tolerated.
“The Ijaw nation is too big to be undermined. No one can impeach Governor Fubara. We will resist any attempt to subjugate our people,” the statement concluded.
MRAI called on the Ijaw Nation to remain united in defending their collective interests against any form of political intimidation.
