Jakarta, Indonesia, in a surreal twist of fate, a 33-year-old coffin maker from Indonesia became an overnight millionaire after a meteorite, believed to be older than Earth’s continents, came crashing through his roof and landed in his living room.
The space rock, estimated to be 4.5 billion years old, struck the home of Josua Hutagalung in the North Sumatra province while he was working outside. “The sound was so loud that parts of the house were shaking too,” Hutagalung told local media. “When I lifted it, the stone was still warm.”
Weighing approximately 2.1 kilograms, the meteorite has been classified as a rare CM1/2 carbonaceous chondrite, a type prized by collectors and scientists for its ancient, organic-rich composition. Experts estimate its value at a staggering $2 million.
“I never thought a rock falling from the sky could change my life like this,” Hutagalung added. “I plan to use the money to build a church in our community and help those in need.”
Space enthusiasts and scientists alike are hailing the meteorite as a priceless scientific artifact. According to meteorite expert Jared Collins, who facilitated the sale to a U.S. collector, “It’s like holding the beginning of the solar system in your hands.”
Photos from the scene show a gaping hole in the tin roof of Hutagalung’s home, with shards of tile scattered around the meteorite’s landing point. Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident.
This incredible stroke of cosmic luck has sparked fascination across social media, where users have dubbed the event “the ultimate gift from the universe.”
As humanity continues to search the skies for signs of the extraordinary, one man in Indonesia now has a permanent reminder that sometimes, the universe comes crashing into your life, quite literally bearing gifts worth millions.
