Man seeks probe as mother and children die after meal in Ondo
Mr. Ademola Adeola from Ondo has urged the state government to investigate the deaths of his mother and four children, which he claims resulted from food poisoning. Mrs. Esther Adeola and her four grandchildren reportedly died after consuming liquid pap at their home in Oke Aro Akure on Saturday.
According to reports, the grandmother passed away shortly after drinking the pap, while the children died the following day. Adeola recounted that the children, aged nine, eight, six, and three, began vomiting and complaining of stomach pains after consuming the pap. He rushed them to the General Hospital in Akure, where a doctor suggested giving them palm oil and expressed uncertainty about their treatment.
Despite efforts to save them at the University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital in Akure, the children could not be revived. Adeola criticized the hospital’s lack of facilities, claiming the medication they received contributed to their deaths.
In response, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, refuted these claims, stating that the medical staff did their utmost to save the children and that the hospital had adequate facilities.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, noted that the case had not been officially reported to the police, but officers had visited the family’s home to investigate the situation further.
