A 25-year-old man, Joseph Abodunrin, from Dagbolu in Osogbo Local Government Area, Osun State, has tragically taken his own life after posting a series of distressing messages online.
Abodunrin had been sharing his struggles with mental health, hopelessness, and emotional distress on social media since January 2025. His messages revealed deep frustration and despair over his circumstances.
On March 9, he tweeted: “I’m in a very tight place right now!! This week is forcing me to make a decision and never look back! I have asked myself several times why I should fight and keep fighting to stay alive, and I have not gotten any meaningful answer ever since.”

Earlier, on March 4, he hinted at his inner turmoil, writing: “March is a decision month. None of what I am experiencing and feeling is my fault… I didn’t create myself, nor did I have control over my genes or the parents I was born to. I tried seeking help, but it only made things worse.”
His final message suggested he had reached a breaking point: “In everything, I give glory to God. I have run my race and given it everything I had. Finally passing on the baton. Nothing much to say again… My passwords are on the first page of my diary. Goodbye!”
Past tweets indicated long-standing distress. On February 20, he voiced frustration with his family, particularly his mother: *”I will never understand why my mother, especially, seems content keeping my pain and emotions repressed. She raised presentable children but stripped us of our individuality.”
On February 14, he made a desperate plea: “Help meeeeeee. I still need help!!!”
He also expressed skepticism about seeking support, writing on February 9: “The problem with reaching out is that people try to counsel you back into accepting the very life that made you suicidal in the first place.”
His cousin, Abodunrin Grace, mourned his passing, revealing that his struggles were hidden behind a facade of laughter and smiles. She shared: “I still feel shattered. You encouraged us all, but you voiced your pain in places we never imagined. Now we can’t get over it.”
She urged people to prioritize their mental health, adding: “No one’s at fault. If you’re struggling, please seek healing. We are all trying to survive, and it’s not easy for anyone.”
