The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Omokinwa Ademola, over the alleged killing of his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, following a domestic altercation in Idanre area of the state.
Reports indicate that the dispute arose over a financial disagreement, with the suspect accused of owing the deceased some money. During the confrontation, Ademola allegedly assaulted Joy, causing her to lose consciousness. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said a 45-year-old woman, Ngozi Gregory, reported the matter to the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters.
“Upon receiving the report, the DPO led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended,” Olayinka said.
He added that the deceased’s body had been deposited at the morgue for an autopsy, and that preliminary investigations were ongoing.
Olayinka described the act as barbaric, reiterating the Command’s determination to ensure justice is served. He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has directed the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to take over the case for further investigation.
According to DSP Olayinka, the suspect was tracked down through credible intelligence, after which he was caught with several incriminating items, including a fake military ID card, camouflage handkerchiefs, emblems, two miniature Nigerian flags bearing his photo, a horsewhip, and a pair of camouflage socks.
Olayinka said the quick intervention of police officers prevented further intimidation of the public, warning that impersonating members of the armed forces is a serious crime that threatens public safety.
He assured that the suspect would face prosecution upon completion of investigations, cautioning others against such illegal impersonation, which carries severe legal penalties.
