Man arrested for opening graves sites to steal iron rods
The State Police Command in Bauchi has arrested a 21 year old man for opening graves sites to steal iron rods in the Yelwan Kagadama area. According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, the suspect confessed to his actions.
Wakil reported that the individual, identified as Dauda Saidu, had illegally entered a cemetery, damaging several graves and extracting iron rods during the day. He sold these rods to scrap metal dealers for various amounts: N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500.
The statement noted, “On September 20, 2024, the Bauchi State Police Command arrested Dauda Saidu, a resident of Yelwa, for trespassing, vandalism, and theft.”
Saidu admitted to selling the stolen rods and stated that he used the money to buy Indian hemp and food for personal use. Police Commissioner Auwal Musa Muhammad has ordered Saidu’s prosecution upon completion of the investigation. He also stressed the need for parental supervision, urging parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their children.
