Blending leadership with humanity at the grassroot level, the Executive Chairman of Maiduguri council area, Hon. Tijjani Umar, has disbursed a staggering N92 million to residents of the council as a Sallah welfare package, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The generous initiative, aimed at easing the economic burden on families during the festive season, directly benefitted thousands of indigent residents, religious leaders, youth groups, and women across the local jurisdiction.
Speaking at the official flag-off of the distribution exercise, Hon. Umar emphasized that the welfare of the people remains his administration’s top priority, especially during periods that demand both spiritual reflection and community solidarity. “This Sallah, we are not just celebrating, we are reaffirming our bond as one people, under God, committed to building a stronger and more inclusive Maiduguri. This N92 million package is our way of saying: ‘We see you, we value you, and we stand with you,” the Chairman declared.
The funds were distributed in cash and essential food items to cushion the impact of inflation and prevailing economic challenges. According to sources within the council, beneficiaries included orphans, widows, vulnerable households, and critical stakeholders in the community.
Community leaders and religious clerics praised the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. “This is not just politics; this is humanity. Hon. Tijjani Umar has shown us what servant leadership looks like,” said Imam Saidu Lawan, a prominent Islamic cleric in the area.
Residents who spoke to the media expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting that the support will bring relief to many homes and enable them to celebrate the Eid with dignity.
The Sallah package, one of the largest local government-led disbursements in recent years, underscores Hon. Umar’s growing reputation as a people-focused administrator and reaffirms his commitment to inclusive governance.
As Maiduguri residents prepare for the sacred celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, the atmosphere is now charged not only with spiritual fervor but with renewed hope, thanks to a leader who chose to give where it matters most.
