LP candidate blames Obi and the NLC for loss

Ayodele Olorunfemi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the Ondo governorship election, has blamed Peter Obi and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for sabotaging his chances of winning. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the election, with Aiyedatiwa securing 366,781 votes, while Olorunfemi finished fifth with only 1,162 votes.

Olorunfemi’s candidacy was initially in doubt due to a legal battle, but the Court of Appeal restored his name as the LP candidate before the election. INEC confirmed this, stating that it had complied with the court’s order and published Olorunfemi’s name accordingly.

In the lead-up to the election, Peter Obi had endorsed another LP candidate, Sola Ebiseni, describing him as someone who stood for fairness, equity, and justice. Obi even campaigned alongside Ebiseni in Ondo. Olorunfemi, however, believes that Obi’s support for Ebiseni, along with the NLC’s involvement, undermined his campaign. He accused them of creating confusion within the party by backing Ebiseni, whom he considered a “PDP reject.”

Olorunfemi also claimed that Ebiseni had written a letter to the court in his name, falsely stating that he had withdrawn from the race, which he vehemently denied. Although he acknowledged his campaign was poorly organized and his chances of winning were slim, he expressed his intention to seek justice and “get his pound of flesh” for the damage caused to his candidacy.
