Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel artist Osinachi Nwachukwu, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja. Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme handed down the judgment on Monday after rejecting Nwachukwu’s plea of no case to answer.
The court found him guilty of culpable homicide in connection with Osinachi’s death on April 8, 2022. He had been arraigned on June 3, 2022, on a 23-count charge brought by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. These charges included homicide, domestic abuse, child cruelty, and criminal intimidation.

During the proceedings, the prosecution called 17 witnesses including two of the couple’s children and presented 25 exhibits. Nwachukwu, in his defense, took the stand and called four witnesses, also submitting four exhibits.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. Despite an appeal for mercy from Nwachukwu’s lawyer, Reginald Nwali, the court sentenced him to death by hanging on the first count. He was also given varying prison terms of six months to three years on other charges and fined a total of N700,000.
The prosecution was led by Mrs. Aderonke Imana. Osinachi, who died at 42, rose to fame in 2017 after featuring on the gospel hit “Ekwueme” by Prospa Ochimana. Following her death, multiple reports and testimonies surfaced, alleging she was a victim of prolonged domestic abuse at the hands of her husband.
