In a decisive move to curb the menace of land grabbing and related malpractices, the Government of Ondo State has constituted a Task Force on the Ondo State Properties Protection Law 2024, also referred to as the Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force.
This development is in compliance with Section 14(1) and (2) of the Ondo State Properties Protection Law, 2024, and marks a significant step towards enforcing property rights and promoting lawful land administration across the State.
The constitution of the Task Force was approved by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as part of efforts to address the escalating cases of unlawful land acquisition, fraudulent sale of lands, and violence associated with property disputes.
The members of the newly constituted Task Force are:

Terms of Reference
The Task Force is empowered to:
Prohibit land grabbing or forceful take-over of land and prevent associated violence.
Eliminate the use of illegal agents, armed individuals, and law enforcement operatives in land acquisition.
Enhance the protection and proper documentation of property ownership.
Increase internally generated revenue through transparent land transactions.
Bring sanity to land dealings and reduce litigation arising from fraudulent practices.
Improve the general value and confidence in land transactions in the State.
The members are expected to serve for a four-year tenure, playing advisory roles and meeting regularly to assess the activities and impact of the Task Force. Oversight responsibility for the Task Force is vested in the Ministry of Justice, with the Chairman mandated to provide periodic updates directly to the Governor.
In his letter, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo O. Fasoranti, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding property rights, ensuring peace, and fostering investor confidence in the State.
This initiative signals a bold resolve by the Aiyedatiwa-led administration to sanitize the land sector and protect the rights of citizens and legitimate landowners throughout Ondo State.
