The Ondo State Ministry of Environment on Monday received a delegation from Kingskid Concept Limited, a marine engineering and coastal protection company, as part of ongoing efforts to address the state’s pressing environmental challenges.
The meeting, held in the office of the Honorable Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Tob Loko, centered on shoreline protection, erosion control, and strategies to safeguard communities along the state’s coastline. Ondo State, which has the longest coastline in Nigeria, continues to grapple with severe flooding, erosion, and sea incursion that have already displaced several settlements.
Dr. Loko acknowledged the urgency of the situation, stressing that the state’s coastal belt is both an economic asset and an ecological challenge. He noted that the government remains open to private sector collaboration, particularly in deploying innovative solutions for shoreline reclamation and community protection.
The Commissioner tasked Kingskid Concept Limited to undertake site visits and design a comprehensive plan tailored to the peculiar terrain of the state’s coastline. He emphasized that the government is determined to sustain any intervention once it begins, ensuring that vulnerable riverine communities benefit from long-term results.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Managing Director Yomi Fatimehin commended the commissioner for his leadership and assured that Kingskid Concept Limited possesses the technical expertise and experience required to address the state’s environmental crises. The team showcased completed projects across Nigeria, including jetty construction, erosion control works, and shoreline protection initiatives.
Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the ministry, including Mr. Kinga Olumide, Administrative Secretary; Mrs. Aderonke Folorunsho, Director of Climate Change; and Mr. Olowoparija Olorunwa, Director of Pollution Control and Sanitation.
The engagement marks a potential partnership between Ondo State and Kingskid Concept Limited as the government intensifies efforts to safeguard its coastline and mitigate the impact of environmental hazards on communities.
