An attempted kidnapping at Okoloba Junction, Jakpa Road, Uvwie LGA, resulted in the deaths of two mobile policemen and a driver named Mr. David Imela. The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that three suspected kidnappers and armed robbers were killed following this incident.

After the failed kidnapping of a Delta State House of Assembly member’s wife, Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda initiated a swift operation to apprehend the suspects. He stated that officers were deployed around Warri and surrounding areas, blocking all exit routes.

In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer SP Edafe Bright, it was revealed that police from the Ebrumede division, led by DPO CSP Iwok Ndifereke, created a traffic jam at the DSC roundabout. When the suspects noticed the police, they opened fire. The police responded effectively despite the busy environment, and the assailants fled, leaving behind their bullet-riddled vehicle. Authorities recovered three AK-47 rifles and the vehicle, registered WWR-436-GZ.

Unhappy with the suspects’ escape, CP Abaniwonda ordered a full-scale manhunt. DPO Ndifereke and his team located the gang’s hideout in Agbarho, resulting in a fierce gunfight. The officers, prepared for the confrontation, managed to overpower the suspects, three of whom were seriously injured and later died in the hospital. Another AK-47 rifle was also recovered.

The police commissioner praised the bravery of DPO Ndifereke and his team, encouraging other officers to follow their example. The search for the remaining suspects is still ongoing.
