Kano Airport Cleaner Returns $10,000 Found in Aircraft
In an exemplary act of honesty, a cleaner at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) returned $10,000 that was found in an aircraft. The cleaner, identified as Aliyu Umar, discovered the substantial amount of money while cleaning a recently disembarked flight.
According to airport authorities, Umar immediately reported the discovery to his supervisors, who then took steps to identify the rightful owner of the money. The sum was eventually handed over to airport security for safekeeping until it could be returned to its owner.
The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Rabiu Yadudu, praised Umar for his integrity, stating that his actions reflect the values that FAAN seeks to uphold. “Aliyu Umar has demonstrated that honesty is not only a personal virtue but also a professional standard that we encourage among all our staff,” Yadudu remarked.
The incident has sparked widespread admiration on social media, with many Nigerians lauding Umar for his commendable behaviour. The airport authorities are reportedly considering rewarding Umar for his honesty, though details of the reward have not yet been disclosed.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity in public service and has cast a positive light on the staff at Kano’s airport, who are often in the public eye.
