The Rivers State Executive Council has revoked a ₦134 billion contract previously awarded for the renovation of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.

The contract, which had been given to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) during the administration of former sole administrator Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd), has now been cancelled.

At its meeting on Thursday, the Council also instructed CCECC to return the ₦20 billion mobilisation fee it received for the project.

Additionally, the Council approved the formation of a six-member committee led by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to assess and propose plans for building Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Rivers State to support the conduct of external examinations.

The Council further tasked the state’s flood management committee, also chaired by the Deputy Governor, with taking immediate steps to mitigate flooding and urged residents to refrain from dumping waste or obstructing drainage systems.
