Former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials, warning that such actions tarnish Nigeria’s reputation.
Speaking on Saturday as the Chairman of the Haske Satumari Foundation Colloquium in Abuja, Jonathan expressed concern over the removal of elected leaders, stating that it undermines the country’s democratic principles.
“These moves by key figures in both the executive and legislative arms of government cast Nigeria in a negative light,” he remarked.
Jonathan noted that former presidents often refrain from making political statements to avoid escalating tensions. However, he said he chose to speak out due to growing public calls for him to address the situation in Rivers State.
He further emphasized that a nation’s ability to attract investment is tied to the credibility of its governance structures. Additionally, he criticized the undue influence of certain individuals over the judiciary, warning that it erodes public trust in the legal system.
