The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Western Zone has sought collaboration with the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) on media relations, a partnership formalized on Thursday, 29th August 2024, during a meeting in Warri, Delta State.

During the meeting, IYC Western Zone Chairman, Mr. Nicholas Igarama, emphasized the importance of this media partnership in promoting growth and unity within the Ijaw nation. He stressed the need for support from the indigenous media body to effectively broadcast the activities of the IYC Western Zone to a broader audience. “We need the support of this great Ijaw indigenous media body to help jingle and report the activities of the IYC Western Zone effectively to the world,” he said.

Mr. Igarama highlighted the critical role of the media in nation-building and development, noting that the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum’s coverage is indispensable, especially as the Ijaw nation faces issues like environmental degradation, infrastructure decay, marginalisation, pollution from gas flaring by International Oil Companies (IOCs), and other forms of injustices imposed by successive administrations.

He pointed out that the collaboration between IYC and IPF would be mutually beneficial, not only to both organisations but also to the Ijaw nation as a whole. He cited the successful remediation process on Bomadi Road as one of the tangible results achieved through their joint efforts and called for continued collaboration to drive positive change in the community.

In response, IPF National President, Comrade Austin Ozobo, expressed gratitude to the IYC Western Zone Chairman for the initiative. He noted that while the IYC and IPF are distinct entities, they share a common goal of Ijaw development, albeit through different approaches.

“As far as the 9th Western Zone IYC pursues issues of Ijaw interest, IPF will be ready to work with the body,” Comrade Ozobo stated. However, he cautioned that IPF would not support any IYC organisation that deviates from the principles of the Kaiama Declaration.

The meeting was attended by several notable figures, including Comrade Onduku Onyinbi of Niger Delta Mirror/Therealmedia, Comrade Cletus Opukeme of Daily Watch, Comrade Ekpegha Tamaraupreye of South South Daily, Comrade Keneware Emmanuel of Briga News, Comrade Prince Perez Klint of Iduwini Voice, Comrade Tony Demebide of Ultimate Report Nigeria, Comrade Tare Magbei of Daily Report Nigeria, Comrade Longsoul Bouye, Comrade Asiayasemo Yerin Star, Comrade Arewaremi Jeff Ekesman, Samuel Uyadonghan, Tams Okunburi of Kpakam TV, and Mike Ugedi of Delta Event TV.
