Augustine Eguavoen has denied rumors that he has resigned as the caretaker coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles. On returning from a recent match in Rwanda, Eguavoen clarified, “The reports circulating are incorrect; I am still in charge.” He emphasized that, as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), managing the Super Eagles is part of his responsibilities.

Eguavoen explained that he had only planned to discuss the team’s strategy with the NFF’s leadership after the recent games. He expressed frustration over the spread of false information, noting, “It’s unfortunate that incorrect stories are being circulated. We don’t need negative reports at this time.”

Under his leadership, the Super Eagles won 3-0 against Benin and drew 0-0 with Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday. The team currently leads Group D in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers with four points from two matches.
