Chief Edwin Clark, the renowned Ijaw national leader, stated yesterday that in order for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to overcome its current struggles, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), must resign.

In a separate letter to the PDP national leadership, Clark called for a full investigation into Wike’s suspected anti-party activities in light of the political unrest roiling Rivers State and suggested appropriate punishment. In a related vein, PDP will officially launch its freshly established disciplinary and reconciliation committees today. Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, made this announcement in a statement yesterday.

In the third letter to PDP, First Republic information minister Clark stated that Wike should be banished from the party if proven guilty. He conveyed concerns that the PDP was in danger of going extinct if the former governor of Rivers State continued to hold party positions despite his alleged abuses. In a letter dated August 20, 2024, Clark wrote to PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, stating that the party’s survival dependsed on the National Working Committee (NWC) taking firm action against Wike.

He continued by saying that individuals who believed they were above the law needed to be subdued before they became too terrible and difficult to control. “We already have enough issues on our hands as a nation because the persons responsible did not act fast when the cases were brewing,” said the aging statesman. In the meantime, PDP will officially launch its recently established committees for disciplinary action and reconciliation today.

Ologunagba added that Eyitayo Jegede served as secretary and Chief Tom Ikimi as chairman of the 26-member disciplinary committee. Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Chief Olabode George, Margaret Icheen, Dr. Sam Egwu, and Alhaji Abubakar Baraje were among the other members.
