The Nigeria Police Force has launched a fresh promotion exercise for officers in the inspectorate cadre, setting August 29, 2025, as the deadline for submitting the required documentation of eligible candidates.

According to a wireless communication obtained by *SaharaReporters* on Wednesday, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) instructed all police departments, formations, and state commands to prepare and forward detailed nominal rolls of Inspectors promoted in 2017 and 2018 and confirmed between 2019 and 2020.

The directive, issued through the Force Secretary in Abuja, mandates that the submissions be organized by seniority and include Annual Performance Evaluation Reports (APER forms) for 2023, 2024, and 2025, duly signed. Submissions are required in both hard and soft copies, with Excel-format data to be sent via a designated email—[promotionsforsec.npf@gmail.com](mailto:promotionsforsec.npf@gmail.com)—and also saved to a flash drive.

Essential data fields include: force number, rank, full name, date of birth, enlistment date, promotion and confirmation dates, current command or formation, state of origin, and duty classification (general duty or specialist).

The initiative reflects the IGP’s renewed effort to standardize promotion procedures amid previous concerns over perceived irregularities in special promotion rounds. A Force Headquarters source confirmed that this exercise targets inspectors last promoted between 2017 and 2020 who are now eligible for promotion to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). The directive was tagged “very important,” emphasizing that late submissions would not be accepted.

In related news, *SaharaReporters* earlier reported that the Police Service Commission (PSC) had recently approved a wave of promotions across senior ranks as part of broader efforts to strengthen professionalism in the Force.

This included the elevation of 12 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGs), 16 Deputy Commissioners to CPs, and 27 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners. One ACP was excluded for being absent during the process.

A press release signed by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani confirmed that 145 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to ACPs, including personnel in general duty and various specialist departments such as medical services, aviation, and religious services.

Additionally, 29 Superintendents—specialists in Information Technology, Works, and the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS)—were promoted to CSPs. Thirty-eight Deputy Superintendents were also promoted to Superintendents.
