The Rivers State Police Command has reopened all 23 Local Government Area (LGA) secretariats, following the withdrawal of police personnel who had previously sealed off the facilities. This move paves the way for the election and swearing-in of newly elected LGA chairpersons, in accordance with orders from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Mustapha Bala, who recently assumed office, implemented the IGP’s directive to withdraw officers, emphasizing the need for neutrality in political affairs. He reassured the public that police personnel would only return to the council offices if necessary, during emergencies or security threats.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara presided over the inauguration ceremony for the 23 newly elected LGA chairpersons at the Government House, Port Harcourt, signaling a smooth transition of power at the grassroots level.

The Rivers State Police Command, through its spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, affirmed its commitment to upholding peace and stability, urging residents to maintain order and avoid unnecessary confrontations.
