Niger Delta
I was screened to serve for 4 years_ Ogbuku
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), clarified that the current governing board is appointed for a four-year term. During a press conference in Port Harcourt, he dismissed rumors suggesting that his tenure would end this year, emphasizing that these claims are unfounded.
Ogbuku referenced the NDDC Establishment Act, which states that board members, excluding ex-officio members, serve a four-year initial term and may be reappointed for one additional term. He attributed the push for the board’s early termination to individuals unhappy with the board’s collaborative efforts to fulfill President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate for the Niger Delta.
He expressed concern that some individuals with selfish interests are trying to destabilize the commission, which has been striving to deliver effective projects and programs. Ogbuku reiterated that the board remains committed to its goal of transformation and urged those seeking leadership changes to reconsider, as he has been reappointed for another four years. He promised that the region would see more community-focused projects and highlighted plans in the upcoming 2024 budget to raise N1 trillion from development and commercial banks to accelerate the completion of legacy projects in the Niger Delta.
