Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed uncertainty about his participation in the 2027 presidential election. Atiku, who has contested for the presidency six times, made the remark during an interview on Untold Stories with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, which is yet to be aired.

His statement comes shortly after announcing a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

When asked about his political plans for 2027, Atiku stated, “I don’t know because there has to be, first of all, a viable platform, more than any other time in the political history of this country, particularly since the return of democracy.”

Despite his uncertainty, the former Vice President acknowledged Nigeria’s urgent need for credible and experienced leadership, hinting at the possibility of contesting.

“I have not seen Nigeria in dire need of an experienced and credible leadership than this time,” Atiku said, referencing the 2014 merger that led to the emergence of a unified opposition candidate.

Meanwhile, speculations are growing that Atiku may align with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the 2027 elections.
