The recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has claimed that he is still the head of the state legislature.

Obasa who was addressing his supporters on Saturday, at the Speaker’s Lodge, 47, GRA Ikeja Lagos, during a welcome event organised for him by them, claimed he remained the rightful speaker of the assembly based on constitutional provisions.

He said that he would  only accept that he was impeached if followed  constitutional provisions.

Speaking to his supporters, he said, “I am not disturbed, I am not afraid.”

P.M News reports that the event was attended by supporters from Agege, Alimosho, and Kosofe local government areas.

Obasa was impeached  earlier in January by 32 of the Lagos lawmakers over allegations of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement and corruption.

Obasa who was away in the USA at the time of his impeachment,  was replaced by his former deputy, Mojisola Meranda.

The emergence of Meranda as Speaker got the blessing of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), a group of political heavyweights within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
