Highway robbery on Ife-Akure express

Armed robbers attacked travelers on the Ife-Akure Expressway, where they also raped a female victim. The incident involved eight armed men who ambushed two vehicles traveling from Lagos to Ilesa, just before reaching Osu.

The robbers forcibly stopped a commercial bus and a car, stealing valuables including ATM cards. According to a victim named Wale, the bus driver was shot but survived, and a woman in the car was raped. The robbers also took money and forced passengers to transfer funds into their accounts.

Some passengers who escaped into the bush alerted security forces. Police, vigilantes, and members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service quickly responded, apprehending one suspect in the surrounding area while others fled. The arrested robber is now in custody and aiding the investigation. The injured bus driver is receiving treatment at a hospital in Ile-Ife. Police spokesperson Emmanuel Giwa-Alade confirmed the arrest and the ongoing investigation.
