Suspected kidnappers launched an attack on a GUO Transport bus heading to Abuja on Tuesday, along the Akunu axis in Ondo State. The incident left several passengers injured, and the bus was severely damaged by gunfire.

A graphic video obtained by SaharaReporters captured the aftermath of the ambush. The footage revealed bullet holes across the vehicle and bloodstains on the front seats, suggesting some passengers sustained injuries. The bus driver, visibly shaken, pointed to the damage in the video, saying in Pidgin English, “Let’s get the tyre out. Thank God I wasn’t harmed. Just look at how the bullets wrecked this place.”

The attack reportedly took place between Akunu in Ondo State and Ayere in Kogi State an area known for repeated incidents involving bandits and kidnappers, despite the presence of police checkpoints. One social media user, claiming familiarity with the situation, noted that the shooting began roughly three minutes after the bus passed a police checkpoint near Akunu.

In the video, a concerned passenger could be heard urging fellow travelers to return to the bus so the fatigued driver could rest.

Attempts by SaharaReporters to get a response from GUO Transport via their official WhatsApp line were met with an automated message stating the company was outside working hours and would address inquiries later. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, had not responded to calls or messages at the time of reporting.
