Gunmen Abduct Two Staff Of Adekunle Ajasin University In Ondo State

Two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), were kidnapped by armed men on Monday evening, raising fresh security concerns in Ondo State.

The abduction took place at their residence in Akungba-Akoko, within the Akoko South West Local Government Area.

Speaking on the incident in Akure on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the development and noted that security operatives had begun efforts to track down the perpetrators.

“Indeed, two staff of AAUA were taken by individuals suspected to be kidnappers. Our officers acted swiftly and succeeded in rescuing one of them,” Ayanlade stated.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police had ordered the rescued victim to be thoroughly debriefed to aid ongoing investigations and assist in the safe recovery of the second abductee.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, one of the victims is Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a faculty officer in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU). He was reportedly taken around 7 p.m. on Monday from his home along Supare-Akoko Road in Akungba-Akoko.
