In a decisive move to combat the escalating menace of kidnapping and criminality in Delta State, the state’s Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, convened a high-powered stakeholders’ engagement with members of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, including the revered Olu of Warri, and all Local Government Chairmen.
The meeting, held amid heightened security concerns across various parts of the state, was a key strategy under the Enhanced Peace and Security pillar of the Governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
The initiative is aimed at fortifying grassroots vigilance, deepening collaboration with traditional institutions, and restoring public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
“We will not surrender our state to criminals. This is our land, and we must protect it with all legitimate means,” Governor Oborevwori declared with steely resolve during the closed-door session, as captured in photos that emerged from the strategic gathering.
The Governor emphasized that traditional rulers, as custodians of culture and moral authority in their domains, have a crucial role to play in intelligence gathering and community mobilization.
“Security is everybody’s business. We must rise above politics and work together to protect our people,” he said.
The Olu of Warri and several other monarchs were present, signaling a unified front against the wave of insecurity. Also in attendance were Local Government Chairmen from the 25 LGAs, who were charged with invigorating local security committees and collaborating with security agencies for swift intelligence response.
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging community partnerships and traditional institutions in pursuit of lasting peace across Delta.
This renewed call to action underscores the Governor’s unrelenting drive to actualize the M.O.R.E Agenda Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security, with security now taking center stage.
As the photos of the somber yet strategic meeting circulate, one message is clear: Delta State is not open for criminal enterprise, and the leadership is putting action behind that message.
