The ancient Ijaw town of Arogbo came alive with pomp, colour, and jubilation as dignitaries, family, and friends converged at the First African Church for the 90th birthday thanksgiving celebration of Mama Keketobou Jane Kuku, the mother of Hon. Kingsley Kemebradigha Kuku, former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
The milestone event, which drew prominent leaders and well-wishers, was marked by glowing tributes in honour of Mama Kuku’s exemplary life.
Representing the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, delivered the Governor’s goodwill message.
In his remarks, Prince Poroye described Mama Kuku as “an exceptional woman, a shining example of resilience, wisdom, and love, whose 90 years on earth symbolise divine grace and an enduring legacy.”
He further extolled Mama’s virtues, noting that her life of selflessness is reflected in the remarkable achievements of her children, particularly Dr. Kingsley Kuku, whom he praised as a visionary leader, a personal friend, and a champion of community empowerment.
Prince Poroye applauded the Kuku family for celebrating their matriarch in her lifetime, stressing that “her devotion, love, and service to humanity will remain exemplary for generations to come.”
Delivering the Governor’s prayers, he added:
“It is my prayer that God Almighty shall continue to grant Mama good health, joy, and many more years of fruitful living. On behalf of the government and the good people of Ondo State, I extend warm congratulations and celebrate Mama as a blessing not only to her family but to society at large.”
In a rare public appearance, Nigeria’s former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, also joined in the celebration, adding colour and prestige to the historic occasion.
In her goodwill message, Dame Jonathan praised the nonagenarian as “a virtuous woman, a great mother, and a pillar whose strength and prayers have upheld her family and community.” She further commended Hon. Kingsley Kuku for carrying forward the values of humility, service, and love instilled in him by his mother.
Family members, dignitaries, and well-wishers took turns to celebrate Mama Keketobou Jane Kuku, describing her as a role model, a pillar of support, and a blessing to her family, the Arogbo-Ijaw Kingdom, and the wider Niger Delta region.
The occasion was crowned with songs of praise, thanksgiving, and jubilant cultural displays, befitting of a matriarch whose life has touched many across generations.
