Gov. Zulum Dissolves Borno Executive Council, As Cross River Gov Directs Aspirants To Resign
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has dissolved the State Executive Council, effectively relieving all commissioners of their duties with immediate effect.
The decision, according to reports, is aimed at creating room for commissioners who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to step down from their executive roles without conflict of interest.
Governor Zulum directed all affected commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to Permanent Secretaries on or before April 3, 2026.
He also appreciated the outgoing commissioners for their service, dedication, and contributions to the development of the state during their tenure.
In a related development, the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu, has issued a directive requiring all political appointees with ambitions for the 2027 elections to resign from office.
The directive, announced during a State Executive Council meeting, set a deadline of March 26, 2026, for affected officials to vacate their positions.
Governor Otu emphasised that no appointee seeking elective office would be allowed to remain in government beyond the stipulated date, stressing the need for focus, discipline, and integrity in governance.
The developments in both states signal early political realignments as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
Observers note that such moves are often aimed at preventing conflicts between public office responsibilities and political ambitions, while also ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants.
