Gov. Otti Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot To Destabilise Abia Government

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has raised concerns over an alleged plot by some political actors to sponsor protests aimed at destabilising his administration.

The allegation was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

According to the statement, intelligence reports suggest that certain individuals are mobilising youths and suspected miscreants from Aba and neighbouring states to stage a protest with the slogan: “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”

The government described the planned protest as an attempt to spread misinformation by suggesting that projects currently being executed by the state government are being funded by the Federal Government.

It maintained that previous clarifications had already been made regarding federal refunds for such projects, noting that such financial arrangements had been discontinued.

The state government warned that the alleged protest could be used as a trigger for confrontation between demonstrators and security operatives, particularly in Aba.

It cautioned that such a situation could escalate into violence, potentially leading to loss of lives and a breakdown of law and order.

“The alleged plot is designed to provoke clashes with security agencies, which may result in serious consequences for public safety,” the statement indicated.

The administration called on parents and guardians to advise their children and wards against participating in politically motivated protests that could endanger their lives.

While reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles and tolerance of opposition, the government stressed that it would not tolerate any actions capable of undermining peace and stability in the state.

It further assured residents that it remains dedicated to maintaining security and providing an environment where political engagement can take place without fear or intimidation, especially as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
