The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Monday Okungbowa, also known as Ebo Stone, the suspended coordinator of the Edo State Public Safety Response Team, for alleged abuse of the naira.
EFCC’s head of media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, revealing that Okungbowa was taken into custody by the commission’s Benin zonal directorate.
His arrest followed the circulation of a viral video showing him spraying and defacing the naira at a bar on March 9, 2025.
“The EFCC has arrested Kelly Okungbowa (a.k.a. Ebo Stone) for alleged naira abuse. Okungbowa, who recently served as the coordinator of the Edo State Public Safety Response Team before being suspended by the state government, was apprehended after a video surfaced online showing him spraying and mutilating the naira,” the statement read.
The EFCC further stated that Okungbowa would be charged to court once investigations are completed.
