GOSPEL SINGER “OMIJE OJUMI” IS DEAD
It is a sad moment for fans and lovers of gospel singer and evangelist Bunmi Akinaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, following news of her death.
According to reports, the gospel artiste had been ill since 2025, with the ailment said to be linked to complications affecting her leg. Despite efforts to restore her health, she reportedly did not recover.
The heartbreaking news surfaced barely a day after popular cleric Pastor Segun Arole publicly inquired about her condition on Instagram, expressing concern over the lack of updates on her health status.
In his post, Pastor Arole wrote:
“Where is Singer Omije Ojumi? We heard that she was sick and we donated money. You can’t tell us to be praying without knowing her condition. What are the Yoruba Gospel artistes doing about this? People close to her should please update us about her situation. If she needs more money for medical treatment, let us know. This woman must not die.”
Following confirmation of her passing, social media has been flooded with tributes and emotional reactions from fans and colleagues.
Actress Funke Etti wrote, “Haa.”
Mary Nurpsey reacted, “OMG ohhhhh no. Maybe if she had listened to that person that sent her the prophecy of her sickness back then, this would have been avoided.”
Another user, Olowoone, said, “The hilarious Yoruba prophet saw this coming because he made a video two days back asking about her health issues. This is really heartbreaking.”
modupe_ola_mii wrote, “I believe she is in a better place, no more pains.”
ellamiddy2023 added, “After all the struggle to make a better living. Omoh, may we not die before our time. Rest easy ma’am.”
iam_lope_mi commented, “Life is indeed fragile,” while softly.feyii wrote, “Oh my God! Ahhh, what’s going on this New Year?”
Her death comes at a time when the Yoruba entertainment industry is still mourning the loss of actress Allwell Ademola, who reportedly passed away after suffering a heart attack at her residence. Her death was confirmed by colleagues including Damola Olatunji, Mr Latin, Fathia Williams and Bidemi Kosoko, and she was laid to rest last week.
Meanwhile, just a day earlier, former BBNaija housemate Liquorose also announced the loss of a loved one, sharing a candlelight photo on Instagram to express her grief.
The passing of Omije Ojumi has left a deep void in the Yoruba gospel music community, with many describing her death as painful and untimely.
