A prominent chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Bode George, has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging President Bola Tinubu to come clean on the fuel subsidy enigma.

George, a former deputy national chairman of the PDP, is demanding transparency from the Federal Government regarding the controversial payments.

“The Nigerian people deserve to know the truth!” George exclaimed during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Friday. “Are we still paying subsidy through the back door or not? The speculation is rife, and it’s time for the government to clear the air.”

George’s outburst comes on the heels of accusations by former governors Isa Yuguda and Nasir El-Rufai that the Federal Government has secretly reinstated fuel subsidies, allegedly paying more than before. The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, recently revealed that Nigeria spends a staggering $600 million on fuel importation monthly.

“We need to know what’s going on behind closed doors,” George insisted. “The NNPC is owned by the Federal Government, which means it’s owned by all Nigerians. We have the right to know the truth. If the government is transparent, we’ll support them. But if they’re hiding something, we’ll call them out.”

George’s demand for accountability has sparked a firestorm of debate, with many Nigerians echoing his call for transparency. As the fuel subsidy saga continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the people demand answers, and they demand them now.
