Fr. Kelvin Ugwu: “Stop Paying Tithe” – Catholic Priest Condemns Tithe Collection in Christianity
In a bold and controversial statement, Catholic priest Fr. Kelvin Ugwu has called on Christians to stop paying tithe, condemning the practice as unchristian. According to Fr. Ugwu, both the act of Christians paying tithes and ministers collecting them—whether willingly given or coerced—are fundamentally flawed and should not be part of modern Christian practice.
Fr. Ugwu emphasized that the concept of tithing, often associated with Old Testament laws, no longer holds relevance in the New Testament and should not be imposed on believers today. “The entire concept of a Christian paying tithe and a Christian minister collecting tithe, whether willingly given or coerced, is unchristian and wrong,” Fr. Ugwu stated.
The remarks have sparked discussions within the Christian community, with many questioning long-held beliefs and practices regarding church donations. Fr. Ugwu’s position challenges the traditional views held by many denominations that continue to encourage the tithe as a form of financial obligation.
His comments are part of a growing discourse among Christian leaders on the need to reevaluate church practices in light of modern Christian teachings.
