The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has resigned from his position amid emerging political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gawuna, who was also the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, is reportedly set to join the African Democratic Congress alongside former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna stated that his decision takes immediate effect and is in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring political appointees to step down in compliance with the Electoral Act.

He noted that the directive was aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness ahead of future electoral processes.

The former board chairman expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as both a privilege and a platform to contribute to national development.

According to him, his role at the Federal Mortgage Bank enabled him to support institutional growth and advance housing development initiatives across the country.

Gawuna assured that he would ensure a smooth handover process in accordance with established procedures, while also committing his future political path to divine guidance.

“I place my future in the hands of Allah while seeking direction for the next phase of my journey,” he stated.

His resignation follows his earlier exit from the APC, a move widely seen as part of ongoing political shifts and coalition-building efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sources indicate that his formal defection to the ADC is expected to be announced soon, further intensifying political activities in Kano State and beyond.
