Flooding: Ondo state governor pledges long term solution and support to avoid state flooding
In response to the recent flooding in Ondo town, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has announced plans for long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future. He pledged to provide support to flood victims and rehabilitate flood-prone areas.
The flash flood, triggered by over eight hours of heavy rain on Friday, caused significant damage in Ondo town, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area, submerging homes, shops, and vehicles.
After visiting the affected areas on Sunday night, Aiyedatiwa expressed concern for vulnerable communities impacted by the disaster. He stated, “We are deeply concerned about the challenges these floods have caused, and we are already working to ensure that affected areas receive immediate relief and long-term solutions.”
The governor assured residents that his administration would prioritize the rehabilitation of flood-prone areas and accelerate ongoing water channelization projects. He also urged residents to refrain from practices that contribute to flooding, such as obstructing drainage channels with waste.
