The President, United States of America, Donald Trump, has confirmed his attendance at the FIFA Club World Cup final scheduled for Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
This confirmation comes shortly after FIFA revealed plans to open a new office inside Trump Tower in New York, a move that signals the organization’s intention to deepen its footprint in the U.S.
The United States is currently hosting the first-ever expanded edition of the FIFA Club World Cup and is also set to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup along with Canada and Mexico.
Sunday’s final will feature Chelsea facing off against either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid at the same stadium that will host the 2026 World Cup final.
President Trump, who previously attended the Super Bowl earlier this year, is currently leading a White House taskforce overseeing preparations for both the Club World Cup and the upcoming World Cup.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed appreciation for U.S. government support, stating:
“We’ve received tremendous backing from the U.S. administration, including direct involvement from the president through the White House taskforce helping coordinate preparations.”
Infantino emphasized that FIFA’s global outlook requires a strong local presence. “To truly be global, we must be present everywhere, and that includes New York,” he said.
FIFA already operates a regional office in Miami. The new New York office at Trump Tower is expected to further reinforce the organization’s engagement with U.S. authorities.
Despite ongoing criticism of President Trump’s immigration stance—including a travel ban affecting citizens of 12 countries Infantino reassured fans: “We’re a global body, and everyone is welcome. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment.”
Reports suggest that the Trump administration may consider expanding travel restrictions to up to 36 more countries.
Since beginning his second term, President Trump has significantly increased his visibility in the sports sector. He became the first U.S. president to attend the Super Bowl while in office and announced that Washington D.C. would host the 2027 NFL Draft.
Trump has also made frequent appearances at UFC matches, including one held in New Jersey last month, and has stated plans for the White House to host a UFC event in the near future.
