FG Deploys 10,000 Strong Task Force
In a bold and decisive move, the Federal Government has deployed 10,000 agro-rangers across the country to tackle the escalating food insecurity crisis.
This forceful response is aimed at protecting farmers, safeguarding farmlands, and preventing the wanton destruction of crops.
According to Olusegun Dada, Special Assistant to President Tinubu on New Media, the agro-rangers will “safeguard farmlands, protect farmers from escalating attacks, mediate conflicts between farmers and herders, and prevent malicious destruction of farmlands.”
This powerful initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The deployment of agro-rangers is a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the worsening food inflation crisis, which has skyrocketed to 40.87% as of July 2024.
The devastating impact of insecurity on food production has forced many farmers to abandon their lands, resulting in a significant decline in food production and a surge in food prices nationwide. The agro-rangers will help to mitigate this challenge and ensure food security in the country.
The Federal Government has also proposed the establishment of state police forces to address the insecurity challenge. However, this proposal requires constitutional amendments and cannot be implemented through executive orders or solely by an act of parliament.
The deployment of agro-rangers is a short-term solution to the insecurity challenge, pending the establishment of state police forces.
With the agro-rangers in place, farmers can now return to their farmlands and produce food without fear of attacks or destruction of their crops. This move is expected to boost food production and reduce food prices in the country.
