FG Assures Improved Power Supply Within Two Weeks

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians of a gradual improvement in electricity supply within the next two weeks as ongoing repairs on a critical gas pipeline near completion.

The assurance was given by the Chief Technical Adviser to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Olowoniyi, during an interview, where he explained that restoration of gas supply to power plants would significantly boost electricity generation.

According to Olowoniyi, recent power shortages across Nigeria were largely due to maintenance work on a major gas pipeline that supplies fuel to electricity generating plants.

He noted that the country’s power sector depends heavily on gas, making any disruption in supply a major factor in reduced electricity output.

“With the maintenance nearing completion, we expect full gas pressure to be restored soon, enabling power plants to return to their previous levels of generation,” he said.

The power ministry official added that early signs of recovery are already being observed, as gas pressure gradually builds up within the system.

He expressed optimism that electricity supply would continue to improve steadily over the coming days.

Oloroniyi also defended the recent apology issued by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, describing it as a demonstration of leadership and accountability rather than an admission of fault.

He said the minister’s response reflects a commitment to addressing the challenges in the sector and ensuring timely solutions.

Earlier, Adelabu had reassured Nigerians that the current outages were temporary and linked to factors beyond immediate government control.

He reiterated the government’s plan to boost electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts before the end of 2026, expressing confidence that ongoing interventions in the power sector would yield positive results.

The Federal Government maintains that improved gas supply and continued infrastructure upgrades will play a key role in stabilising electricity across the country.
