Four individuals suspected of being involved in the killing of an officer from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State have been arrested by police operatives.

The officer was reportedly ambushed and fatally shot during a drug raid carried out in the Ita’nla area of Ondo town.

According to a source, the NDLEA team had received intelligence about illicit drugs allegedly hidden in the ceiling of a residential building in the area and subsequently launched a raid.

“They entered the building to retrieve the drugs, while one officer, identified as Jide, remained outside on sentry duty. Suddenly, some armed suspects believed to be drug dealers emerged and shot him at close range,” the source said. “He was quickly taken to the hospital, but sadly, doctors confirmed he was dead on arrival. It was truly a tragic incident.”

The source added that the attackers may have been tipped off ahead of the operation, leading to the deadly ambush. The gunshots outside alerted the rest of the NDLEA team inside the building, triggering a shootout in which several officers reportedly sustained injuries.

Following the incident, the police were called to the scene and began immediate investigations.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrests. “Our officers responded swiftly to the scene, and we’ve taken four suspects into custody,” he said. “A single-barrel gun was also recovered, and our investigation is ongoing to ensure all those responsible are held accountable.”

Olayinka assured the public that the suspects would be prosecuted, and justice would be served. The fallen officer’s body has since been deposited at the morgue.
