The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a specialized UN agency advancing inclusive and sustainable industrial growth, has strengthened its foothold in Ondo State with a major environmental initiative.

During a courtesy visit to the Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Tob Loko, the Ondo State UNIDO Focal Person, Mr. Ogunmodede Francis, officially congratulated the Commissioner on his emergence as Chairman of the Ondo State UNIDO team.

According to Mr. Francis, UNIDO’s constitution stipulates that the political head of the Ministry of Environment automatically serves as the state chairman. He further recalled milestones achieved since the state team’s inauguration in May 2023, including the visit of the National UNIDO delegation led by the Country Representative, Mr. Oluyomi Banjo, in October.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Loko described the appointment as a call to service, expressing delight at the progress so far. He pledged to accelerate the institutionalization of UNIDO in Ondo State, ensuring residents benefit maximally from ongoing projects.

“Our vision is to position Ondo State as a Circular Economy Hub in Nigeria; a model for other states to emulate,” he stated.

The Commissioner emphasized that the initiative holds significant potential to create jobs for youths, enhance sustainable industrial practices, and boost state revenue.

Also speaking, the Administrative Secretary, Mr. Kinga Olumide, hailed the project as laudable and a rare opportunity for Ondo State. He urged the state UNIDO team to intensify efforts on pending tasks assigned by the national office.

According to him, prompt execution will ensure the project delivers far-reaching benefits to both the state’s economy and environment.
