Former Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja on Monday over ongoing investigations into alleged corruption during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.

His arrival reportedly triggered tension at the entrance of the anti-graft agency, as security operatives restricted members of his entourage from gaining access into the premises.

Supporters of the former governor gathered at a junction leading to the commission’s headquarters, chanting solidarity slogans and wielding placards bearing inscriptions such as, “El-Rufai is a citizen, not a subject,” and “We stand with El-Rufai. We stand for law.”

The protest created a charged atmosphere around the EFCC office, drawing the attention of passersby and security personnel.

A video circulating online showed some supporters alleging that security operatives dispersed them with teargas while purportedly allowing anti-El-Rufai protesters to assemble nearby.

As of press time, the EFCC had not issued an official statement regarding the development or the specific details of the allegations under investigation.

The situation remains fluid as observers await further clarification from the anti-corruption agency and representatives of the former governor.
