The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Government, as Muslims across the nation and in the diaspora prepare for one of Islam’s most significant festivals.

“We extend heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah both at home and abroad on the occasion of this year’s Eid-ul-Adha,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated. “This sacred period is a time for deep reflection, sacrifice, and unshakable faith, just as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).”

The Minister urged Muslim faithful and all Nigerians to use the festive season not only to celebrate but to also pray for national unity, peace, and prosperity.

“I encourage all to pray fervently for our dear country,” he said. “It is through collective faith and action that we can overcome our challenges and realize the Nigeria of our dreams.”

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also highlighted the reforms and citizen-focused initiatives being championed under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing that these efforts are strategically aimed at repositioning the nation for sustainable progress.

“The government remains committed to laying a solid foundation for national restoration and economic revival. These holidays are not just for rest and celebration, but also for recommitting ourselves to a better Nigeria,” the minister emphasized.

In his concluding remarks, the Minister called on Nigerians of all faiths and backgrounds to support the administration’s efforts to rebuild the country, stating that unity, patriotism, and civic responsibility remain crucial to Nigeria’s journey toward greatness.

The statement was formally signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
