The most ancient throne in southern Nigeria, the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom, has witnessed the passing of His Royal Majesty, Meshack E. Ubabiri (JP), the Bini Pere IV. The revered monarch, who was the 59th Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom, encompassing both Edo and Delta States, has reunited with his ancestors.

The announcement was made in a terse statement by the traditional council of chiefs of Egbema Kingdom yesterday in Ogbudugbudu town, signaling the end of an era for one of the most successful rulers of the region.

Shortly after the traditional breaking of the symbolic staff, known as Pere Okpor, a solemn ceremony conducted by the traditional council at Ogbudugbudu town, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, the atmosphere was thick with grief. In the presence of Palace chiefs, journalists, and the Egbema people, the passing of HRM Pere Meshack E.A. Ubabiri was met with open weeping as the community mourned one of southern Nigeria’s foremost traditional rulers.

HRM Pere Meshack E.A. Ubabiri was also the priest of Egbema Egbesu, a role deeply embedded in the cultural and spiritual fabric of the Egbema people. His departure marks a significant moment in the history of the kingdom, with the traditional rites underscoring the gravity of the loss.

The kingdom now enters a period of mourning, as further details surrounding the burial rites and the succession process are awaited.
