Students in the Niger Delta region are set to receive 45,000 educational tablets aimed at enhancing learning outcomes across the states. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has teamed up with uLesson Education, a leading education technology company in Africa, to distribute these tablets throughout the nine states of the region. The initiative was formally launched at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Hall in Yenagoa.

George Uzonwanne, the NDDC director of education, health, and social services, represented the managing director and CEO of NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, at the event. He announced that, alongside the distribution of the tablets, the NDDC will provide training for teachers to help students learn how to use the devices effectively. A hotline and help desk will also be established for students to seek assistance as needed.

Sim Shagaya, founder of uLesson Education, expressed his concerns about access to educational technology, noting that initially, their products were mostly purchased by wealthier families. He emphasized that the partnership with NDDC is crucial for making these resources available to all students. He pointed out that while technology can address many social issues, it cannot solve all problems on its own, highlighting the importance of supporting teachers and collaborating with governmental agencies.

This initiative combines uLesson’s high-quality academic content and technology with the NDDC’s commitment to education, aiming to enhance the educational landscape in the region through technology and self-paced learning. Discussions between the NDDC and uLesson started in October 2023, and after careful evaluation, the contract was awarded to uLesson on January 26, 2024.

The uLesson Education Tab 2 offers personalized learning experiences with a wealth of interactive educational content. To overcome internet access challenges, the tablets store video lessons locally for offline use, enabling students to learn anytime and anywhere. The tablets also include interactive tests, quizzes, mock exams, and weekly learning reports, along with parental controls to ensure safe internet usage.

This partnership reaffirms the NDDC and uLesson Education’s commitment to improving education and empowering future leaders in the Niger Delta by leveraging technology to create a supportive learning environment that encourages academic success and maximizes each student’s potential.
