As the 57th Boro Day Celebration approaches, the Ijaw nation once again stands at a historic junction; a time to reflect on our journey, celebrate our heroes, and recommit ourselves to the ideals for which Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro lived and died. The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, under the visionary leadership of Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, has unveiled a well-structured lineup of activities to mark this year’s Boro Day, ensuring that the legacy of our fallen hero remains alive in our consciousness and actions.

The theme for this year’s edition is “Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro: Celebrating the Legacy, Rekindling the Struggle,” is more than just a slogan. It is a call to action; a reminder that the struggle for self-determination, environmental justice, equity, and resource control remains a living mandate. Boro Day is not just a memorial; it is a rallying cry for unity, consciousness, and strategic resistance to the systemic injustices faced by the Ijaw people.

The dinner night slated for May 15th in Yenagoa will honour those who continue to embody Boro’s spirit. These recognitions serve as a torchlight for the younger generation proof that sacrifice and service to the Ijaw cause are never in vain. The lecture session will stir the minds of our people and redirect attention to critical national issues affecting the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

The climax of the celebration is expected to be on May 16th; the procession to Boro’s graveside and the cultural fanfare at Kaiama, accompanied by High Chief Barrister S Smooth’s electrifying performance; promises to be a deeply emotional and unifying moment. It reminds us that our strength lies in our cultural identity and collective solidarity.

We, at Arogbo-Ibe Voice Reporters, commend the Central Planning Committee led by Comr. Freedom E. Atigbi, Ph.D., for its diligent coordination. We also salute the eloquence and steadfast commitment of Amb. (Dr) Binebai Yerin Princewill in keeping the IYC’s voice resonant and purposeful.

To all sons and daughters of Ijaw land, particularly our people in Arogbo-Ibe, we urge you to participate actively in this year’s Boro Day. Let us show that the spirit of Boro is not just remembered; it is alive, burning in the hearts of those who refused to be silenced.

The struggle continues. The dream is still valid. And in unity, we will prevail.
