Yemen’s Houthi group has taken credit for a devastating drone attack on Tel Aviv, Israel, which resulted in one fatality and at least 10 injuries.

The Iran-aligned rebels announced on social media that they had targeted the city using a new, advanced drone capable of evading radar detection and interceptor systems.

The Israeli military has launched an investigation into the explosion near the US embassy, which occurred despite the country’s air defense systems not being activated. The military has increased air patrols to ensure the safety of the country’s skies.

The attack has sparked outrage, with opposition leader Yair Lapid criticizing the government for its failure to provide security to citizens. The Houthis have a history of launching attacks in support of Palestinians, and this incident marks the first time they have successfully breached Israel’s defenses.

Israeli police said the body of a man was found in an apartment close to the explosion, and the circumstances are being investigated.

Footage from the site showed broken glass strewn across pavements, and crowds of onlookers gathered near a building bearing blast marks. The site was sealed off by police tape.

The Houthis have repeatedly launched drones and missiles towards Israel and at Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, in a show of support for Palestinians amid Israel’s war on Gaza.

Until this attack, all attempts to hit Israel by the Houthis were intercepted by either Israeli defenses or Western allies with forces stationed in the region.
