Don’t Trade Away Our Heritage: Mulade Urges Benikrukru Community to Reject Land Sales

A renowned global peace and development advocate, Comrade Mulade Sheriff, has called on the peace-loving people of Benikrukru Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State to avoid setting a bad precedent in their community and Gbaramatu Kingdom at large.

Chief Mulade, the Ibe-Serimowei of the Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, made this statement over the weekend, cautioning the community’s leadership, headed by Comrade Joel Tonjoh, to avoid actions that could endanger future generations.

The Gbaramatu-born peace advocate made his stance clear in response to an alleged attempt by the Comrade Joel Tonjoh-led leadership to sell certain parcels of land, totaling over four hundred acres, in a clandestine, suspicious, and dubious manner, with no historical or cultural justification.

The environmental rights activist urged the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II, and the elders of Benikrukru Community to call Comrade Joel Tonjoh and his executive team to order and prevent them from attempting to sell any part of Benikrukru land under any pretense.

He strongly advised, “We should support any of our indigenes who have the capacity to attract investors to Gbaramatu Kingdom, especially Benikrukru Community.”

He emphasized the need for the Benikrukru community to express gratitude to one of its indigenes for his significant contributions to the community’s development and growth and for showcasing the community’s potential. “Land should be given to him freely to support his investment efforts, as the community’s equity contribution, instead of selling land to him. This will serve as a motivator to this illustrious son and many others,” he stated.

“I strongly believe that the prevailing harsh economic conditions in the country are not enough for us to lose sight of the enormous contributions he has made to the economic growth of Benikrukru community. Let us avoid actions that are detrimental to natural justice, equity, and fair play,” Mulade advised.

According to Comrade Mulade, “Benikrukru Community land in Gbaramatu Kingdom belongs to all its sons and daughters with inalienable rights. No individual should be denied such rights, as these denials could lead to future crises and legal disputes.”

The Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom appealed to the community to strongly support and contribute to investment initiatives. “Let it be on record that any purported Deed of Conveyance will be resisted by all available legal means,” Chief Sheriff Mulade warned.
