Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he shared a signed resignation letter.

The letter, dated July 4, 2025, was addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

In the letter, Melaye, who was the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kogi, explained that his decision to leave the party was driven by its apparent inability to rescue the nation from what he described as deep-rooted political decay.

He said that after much deliberation, he could no longer in good conscience remain in the party or align with its objectives.

Therefore, kindly regard this letter as my official exit from the party and all related activities, effective immediately,” he wrote.

Melaye also thanked the PDP for the platform it provided him to serve throughout his time with the party.
