Desist from violence against the Niger delta _ Otuaro urges
Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has urged PAP delegates and youths in the Niger Delta to maintain peace in the region. He emphasized that safeguarding peace would attract businesses and foster economic growth both locally and nationally.
Speaking during the third day of an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Warri, Delta State, Otuaro highlighted the role of the PAP delegates and youths as crucial partners in peace-building and development. He stated, “The Presidential Amnesty Programme is yours, and you are vital to the peace process in the Niger Delta.”
Otuaro reiterated the office’s commitment to engaging stakeholders and empowering beneficiaries through educational and vocational initiatives. He thanked the delegates for their support of the National Security Adviser and President Bola Tinubu, assuring them of the president’s commitment to major infrastructural projects, including the East-West Road.
He also mentioned a proposed increase in the PAP’s annual budget to include more youths and women in its programs. Otuaro called on all delegates and youths to avoid protests, particularly a rumored demonstration on October 1st, emphasizing that such actions would not benefit the region or the country.
During the meeting, various participants, including rights activist Elder Timi Ogoriba and former freedom fighters Eris Paul and Pastor Reuben Wilson, expressed that the region has moved beyond protests.
Additionally, HRM Major General Felix Mujakperuo (retd.), chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, advised Niger Delta youths not to take the region’s peace and security for granted. He praised President Tinubu for continuing the PAP and commended the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua for establishing it, noting its importance in fostering peace and development.
Mujakperuo concluded, “We must value peace and security, as they are essential for progress in our kingdoms.”
